Wakulla County Schools recognize Outstanding School Volunteer of the Year at December Board Meeting

The Wakulla County School Board applauded the Outstanding School Volunteer of the Year, Tom Dunaway, at the December School Board Meeting. Tom Dunaway is affectionately known as “Papa Tom” by the students, faculty and staff at the schools he has served for the last thirteen years. Currently, “Papa Tom” volunteers at Wakulla Middle School. However, he has loyally served at Medart Elementary and Shadeville Elementary as well.

Mr. Dunaway averages 30 hours of volunteer service per week. On any given day he may be seen providing individual tutoring of students or putting up classroom and hallway displays. He faithfully serves as a proctor for testing, and he supervises a study hall for groups of students during lunch. On some days he is a classroom assistant making copies or grading papers, and he always helps at the school book fair.

Superintendent Bobby Pearce notes, “Tom Dunaway is an excellent representative of Wakulla volunteers. His service provides a supplement to our overall school programs and makes a positive difference in the lives of our students and staff.” WMS Principal Rick Myhre adds, “The WMS team speaks extensively of their admiration for and dependence on his service. He is truly an outstanding school volunteer.”

Tom Dunaway will represent Wakulla County at the State Level for Florida Outstanding School Volunteer of the Year.
