Wakulla County Superintendent of Schools Bobby Pearce spearheaded the second annual effort by Wakulla County students and staff to help raise funds for the Wakulla County Senior Citizens Center, designating the cause as “September for Seniors”.
This year the funds will go directly to help put on the Community Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the Senior Citizens Center on November 25, 2014. Over $4,000 was raised to help offset a continuing decrease in state funding for seniors.
Students, faculties and staffs from Wakulla County public schools pitched in with innovative ways to raise the funds, such as movie nights, themed student dress up days, and “dress down” days for faculty and staff members. All donations were optional.
“This kind of generosity and concern for our senior citizens and our community in general is as important as any other concept we can teach our students,” stated Superintendent Pearce. “I was happy but not surprised that our children, employees, and parents rose to the occasion once again to help our valued elders.”
