Wakulla County Superintendent of Schools Bobby Pearce spearheaded the fifth annual effort by students, faculties and staffs to help raise funds for the Wakulla County Senior Citizens Center.  He came up with the idea and designated the cause as “September for Seniors”.

Wakulla County public schools raised close to $3,500 to help offset a continuing decrease in state funding for seniors.

Crawfordville Elementary alone raised $1,500 of the total.

Notes CES Principal Belinda McElroy, “We adults at every school just try to model to our students that giving of our time, talents, and money to help others is an important part of life.”

Students, faculties and staffs pitched in with innovative ways to raise the funds, such as movie nights or dress down days.  All participation and donations were voluntary.

Wakulla County Senior Citizens Center Executive Director R. H. Carter was on hand to accept the donation.  “We certainly appreciate this unsolicited effort by Superintendent Pearce and the Wakulla County schools.  It will directly help in what we can offer our seniors.”

Says Superintendent Bobby Pearce, “Helping our students put into action giving back to their community is as important as any other concept we teach.  What better lesson than to show our students how a small effort to help others can grow into an annual event that can truly make a difference to our valued senior citizens?”
