No stranger to hard work, Shadeville Elementary School’s Greg Hutchinson was chosen as the June 2017 Employee of the Month.
After four years in the United States Air Force with the law enforcement Security Police, he went on to work for 37 years as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier.
Since then, he has worked in the Wakulla County school system as a food service worker at Riversprings Middle School and as a custodian at Shadeville Elementary School.
Noting what he likes about his job, Hutchinson says, “I enjoy the way my co-workers all cooperate and work when someone is out. Plus, the students all make sure to say thank you and they all love my Minions hat! I also enjoy having holidays and summers off after so many years of overtime at the post
His goal each year is not to miss a day of work, which is not lost on his supervisor, Shadeville Elementary’s Foreman D’Arcy Brazier, who says, “I couldn't ask for a better employee than Greg. He not only gets along great with his co-workers, but also with teachers and students. Greg is also a top notch worker who takes care of things without being asked. He's always on time and doesn't leave until the work is done.”
It is not lost on Hutchinson that an elementary school has its everyday joys in being around children and those who have dedicated their careers to helping children succeed. He enjoys helping with everything from seeing the students and staff join in the excitement of the Fall Carnival, to the small acts of kindness he witnesses and adds to every day.
“Greg Hutchinson is one of those rare individuals who can find joy in any job he does. He takes pride in doing his part to keep Shadeville Elementary looking good and running well. This is an award well-deserved by Mr. Hutchinson,” says Superintendent Bobby Pearce.
