Wakulla High School Business Education teacher Brenda Hatcher received one of Governor Rick Scott’s Shine Awards given to educators from around the state for their dedication to educating students in Florida. She was recognized at a January, 2016 Cabinet Meeting for her significant contributions to the field of education.

Hatcher has been teaching many Business Education courses at Wakulla High School for 19 of her 34 years in education. Among them are Accounting and Computing for College and Careers.

Her positive influence on hundreds of students over the years, including helping students get into college and also finding them jobs, has been immeasurable. Many times she has brought in guest speakers to let students ask questions about different careers, believing that it is important for students to hear from people other than their teachers what awaits them when they graduate from high school.

Says Superintendent Bobby Pearce, “Mrs. Hatcher has a true heart for students and feels that it is her calling to help prepare them for life after high school. We congratulate her on earning the governor’s Shine Award.”
