November Employee and Teachers of the Month

The November Employee of the Month is School Bus Driver, Adrienne Bishop. Ms. Bishop has worked for the Wakulla School District Transportation Department for three years. She is also the owner of Savannah’s Country Buffet located in Wakulla Station. Prior to working with the District she was a food safety inspector with the Florida Department of Agriculture.

Bishop has roots deep in Wakulla County, attending school at Shadeville Elementary, Wakulla Middle and graduating from Wakulla High. Post high school, Bishop attended TCC, Keiser, Lively Vo-Tech and FAMU where she received formal training in business, real estate and law.

“It amazes me, how a large group of people can all get on the same page in a matter of seconds to insure our children get home safe every day,” shares Bishop, “Our children are truly blessed to have such a dedicated group of people transporting them.”

Wakulla Schools also receive the benefit of her business partnership as Savannah’s donates in a variety of ways for the benefit of the students. Ms. Bishop is impressed with the team spirit and support from the transportation team.

Pat Jones, Transportation Coordinator adds, “Mrs. Bishop is an outstanding bus driver. She relates to her students and parents keeping student safety as her number one job function. She greets her students with a smile and when they depart she always has a kind word for them. She also excels in the area of keeping her bus clean. Her motto is, “I want a clean bus for me and my students.” We are proud that she is part of the Wakulla Transportation Team.”

Riversprings Middle School selected Adrienne Austin Byrd as their November Teacher of the Month representative. Byrd began her career in Wakulla County at Wakulla Middle School as an ESE teacher and transferred to Riversprings as a 6th grade teacher in 2007. Byrd is currently in her eleventh year of teaching.

Originally from Tallahassee, Byrd graduated from Godby High School and later FAMU with a BS degree in Computer Information System. She completed her Master’s degree online with Western Governors University with a major in Educational Measurement and Evaluation.

One of her favorite things to hear in class is when a student says, “Mrs. Byrd, I got it.” Byrd shares, “That is music to my ears and keeps me motivated every day.” When not busy in the classroom, Byrd supports the total school program as a member of the school improvement team, lead teacher and black history month sponsor.

Michele Yeomans, RMS Principal, adds, “Mrs. Byrd is a wonderful teacher. She is well respected among her fellow teachers. She comes to work with a focus to work hard every day to make her students the best they can be. She readily volunteered to teach our new Impacte Program this year. Her hard work, getting this program off the ground, has created a positive ripple effect throughout the school. She is surely deserving of this honor.”

November Teacher of the Month is Kelly Willis, Crawfordville Elementary School Primary Teacher. Willis has been a Crawfordville Cougar for more a decade, following her graduation from Flagler College.

Willis, a North Florida girl, attended and graduated from Godby High School. While attending Flagler College she was able to intern at Crawfordville. She currently teaches a kindergarten/pre-first combination class and notes that “building confidence is a huge part of my job. We celebrate all successes big or small each day.”

Crediting her kindergarten team, Willis shares that together, they review standards and create meaningful engaging learning centers. She adds, “It is important to me that I instill a love for learning so they are eager to walk into my classroom each day.”

CES Principal Angie Walker applauds Ms. Willis’ characteristics describing her as, “a kind, gentle, patient, wonderful teacher. She is a nurse, a mom, a referee, a psychologist, a behavior specialist, a counselor, a custodian. I am honored to work with Mrs. Willis as I know that each and every day will be the very best day for each of her students because of her purposeful efforts.”
