Employees of the Month Sharon Lewis, Finance Assistant, and Richard Tanner, School Bus Driver recognized
Superintendent Robert Pearce and the Wakulla County School Board applaud the dedication to the District as a whole each bring to work every day on behalf of the students, schools, the profession of education and local communities they serve.
Sharon Lewis, May Employee of the Month, has worked in the Wakulla County School District Finance Department since 1996. She has worked as a bookkeeper, administrative secretary, fiscal specialist and is now the Finance Assistant. Prior to working with the School District, Lewis worked at the Wakulla IGA and Barwick’s Ocean Fresh Seafood.
A graduate of Wakulla High School, Lewis has made the school district a better place by her undying work ethic and attention to detail. Lewis is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill her job duties in a timely and efficient manner while treating others with dignity and respect. She adds, “The most enjoyable part of my job is helping employees, both current and former.”
Chief Finance Officer Randy Beach recognizes that Lewis has one of the most challenging jobs in our District. He notes, “She continually succeeds in completing all of her duties with the highest respect for her fellow workers, the job itself and the reputation of this School District. The complexities of our payroll process require high critical thinking skills. Mrs. Lewis exudes a positive and friendly personality to the many people she interacts with each day. Many of our employees eventually retire with the school system and this endeavor is as perplexing as it is important to an employee’s life. Mrs. Lewis’ knowledge and compassion provides great comfort to our employees during this time of their career and she continues to provide tremendous service to our retirees. She also represents our District with respect to many of our payroll vendors and service providers and is highly thought of by their representatives. I am thankful that she is one of us and I know that her dedication to this job and this District will continue and our employees and others will benefit greatly.”
Richard Tanner, School Bus Driver is also recognized as the May Employee of the Month. Tanner retired from the Federal Bureau of Prison Bus Operations and after seeing an ad in The Wakulla News and because he still had his CDL, applied to drive for the Wakulla County School District. In less than three years he has earned a reputation of being dedicated, dependable and conscientious.
Transportation Coordinator Pat Jones shares, “Mr. Tanner communicates with students in a positive way. He loves his job and that is reflected in the way he interacts with students and colleagues.”
Originally from Douglas, GA, Tanner looks forward to every day. He notes, “Knowing that I have an opportunity to set the tone for the day for each child that gets on my bus in the morning is a huge responsibility. I want them all to have a very productive and happy day. This can be accomplished with a simple “Good Morning” and smile in most cases.”
Richard Tanner also contributes to the Lake Ellen Baptist Church in children’s church and men’s ministry.
